These are pictures of the road to Mount Evans (Highway 105). It is the highest paved road in the U.S. (14,264 feet). The highest paved road in the world is just under 16,000 feet. Once you get on highway 105 (the road to the top of mount Evans) from highway 103, there are NO guardrails and the 2 lane road is fairly narrow. In many spots there is less than 12 inches between the edge of the road and a steep 80 degree drop of thousands of feet. If there is any amount of snow on the road it can take nerves of steel (or sheer stupidity) to go up this road even with a 4 wheel drive.
The furry critters are yellow bellied marmots. They are only found in alpine and sub-alpine climates.
